RHODE skincare
All right, I am doing it.
That’s what I said to myself when I hit “purchase” and bought myself a few of Hailey Bieber’s skincare products.
After being bombarded with tons of promotions and ads, I gave into the hype and spent some $$ to try out Rhode Skincare, out of pure curiosity.
And I am very resistant when it comes to celebrities’ beauty brands.
In general, I am all for supporting a celebrity you like and truly that is the only reason to buy any product made by a celebrity (you like them and you low-key want to be (like) them).
Funny enough, the only other celebrity brand that I have tried out is Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty (which I adore). Okay, Fenty too.
Anyway, I have felt neutral towards Hailey Bieber, never been a fan or followed her but Rhode Skin sparked some kind of interest in me, I think the way it was marketed was pretty genius. Efficacious skincare, one of everything really good- as they describe on their website. It hits all the marks when it comes to what we look for in beauty products today- dewiness, hydration, and that glossy, juicy look.
First things first there is no way that everyone will see and feel the same effect with these products since your skin type matters. I don’t believe in the “good for all skin types” statement.
I placed a few different orders for the past few months to try out all the different products and the last one in my collection was the BRC (Barrier Restore Cream). So let’s start with that.
Barrier Restore Cream
SHEA BUTTER, SQUALANE, PEPTIDES, AÇAI, NIACINAMIDE
Described as a rich but lightweight cream moisturizer I give this product a 3/5.
It’s definitely lightweight, I would not describe it as rich. The formula resembles whipped butter and quickly absorbs into my skin. Mind you, I have dry skin. The initial glow is definitely there but quickly disappears once the product fully absorbs. The same goes for the Peptide Glazing Fluid but we’ll get there.
I’ve always been a fan of Squalane and that works well for me, as that is a main ingredient in one of my absolute favorite moisturizers, the Omega Repair Cream by Biossance. Regarding the rest of the ingredients- I am not a professional but it is basic knowledge that Niacinamide is great for strengthening the skin barrier. Do we really need to use 2 products with peptides in them though?
I overall enjoyed using this product and it felt like my skin was soft sometime after application though I did not notice any major difference in the long run.
Peptide Glazing Fluid
NIACINAMIDE, PEPTIDES, HYALURONIC ACID, MARULA OIL
Having in mind the ingredients here, this product *should* be extra hydrating.
I was skeptical right off the bat, as gel serums don’t work for my dry skin type, this did leave a feeling of hydration, though not long-lasting. You can’t help but enjoy the application process as it looks dewy as heck the first few minutes. But that will disappear (if you have dry skin). It felt more like a fun extra step to my routine rather than a necessity. On a scale of 1 to celebrity launched brand, it’s a 3 from me.
Peptide lip treatment
SHEA BUTTER, PEPTIDES, CUPUAÇU, BABASSU
I am not sure if one can overuse peptides but this lip gloss (balm?) is a 5/5 in my mind since I’ve repurchased it multiple times. I use the Unscented every night before bed and the Salted caramel I have in my pocket at. all. times. during the day. It smells like heaven and feels like luxe. Most importantly it leaves my lips feeling so soft. What else do you need from a lip balm, really?
One thing I do want to mention, I’ve seen reviews where people found the formula to be grainy, which I did experience with the limited edition Vanilla Cake lip treatment.
I do hope nobody is fooling themselves that Hailey’s skin is purely a product of Rhode skincare. It looks like she does have amazing skin, but I do want to be realistic that there are surely numerous treatments, facials, etc. that she gets to care for her skin properly.
There is more to great skin than great *topical* skin care. And that’s diet, overall well-being, and extra treatments.
All that being said, kudos to Hailey for creating something good quality, and affordable.
Personally, I will keep repurchasing the lip treatment as it’s become a staple in my routine, as for the rest, I enjoyed it but can go without it.
